CIBSE Societies

Membership of Societies: Applications for membership of societies will go to the relevant Membership Panel before being awarded an appropriate grade of Society membership. Additionally all new members of a society will be made an affiliate of CIBSE unless another CIBSE grade is already held. Click here for further information on how to apply to join a society.

The Society of Light and Lighting (SLL)

In 1978 the Society of Light and Lighting amalgamated with the Institution of Heating &Ventilating Engineers to form the Chartered Instituion of Building Services, which became the Chartered Instituion of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) in 1985. The SLL is the senior professional body in the UK representing the interests of those involved in the art, science and engineering of light and lighting across the world. It offers authoritative publications, professional recognition and a wide range of learned society activites.

The Society of Facade Engineering (SFE)

The Society of Facade Engineering (SFE) was formed in 2003 as a society of CIBSE but with the support of the IStuctE and the RIBA. It is managed by a Steering Committee drawn from amoung its members and administered by CIBSE. The SFE was formed to provide the facade industry with a recognised body to look after the accreditation of those active in the field, to acknowledge their academic qualifications and the wealth of experience gained throughout many years of working in this specialist area.

The Society of Public Health Engineers (SoPHE)

The Society of Public Health Engineers (SoPHE) aims to provide a higher profile and focus for public health engineers within CIBSE. The SoPHE organises techincal meetings; provides techincal input to CIBSE guides and other publications; provides input into Building Regulations and other legislation relating to public health engineering and pormotes the importance of best patrice in public health engineering to other porfessionals disciplines and to the public.
